  • PrEP is short for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. (Prophylaxis means treatment or action taken to prevent disease)

  • PrEP is one type of HIV prevention taken by mob who don’t have HIV but are at risk of getting HIV.

If you’re a guy who has sex with other men, you should think about getting PrEP.  No Shame, talk to your doctor, it’s private.

  • Taking PrEP, it’s one oral pill a day, and it only takes about a week to provide maximum protection from HIV. See your doctor to yarn about how to get PrEP.   

  • It doesn’t protect you from other STI’s just HIV.  Most people have no side effects, if you do, they go away in a few. Yarn to your Doctor about it.

  • Once you have PrEP there is enough for 30 days, so you might need a few bottles to last the 3 months. It’s important to keep taking the medication each day to make sure you are protected.

  • If you put a reminder in your phone for the same time every day this can help. Every 3 months you should do a full STI check-up to see how they’re working for you.

  1. YOU NEED A PREP PRESCRIPTION

  2. You have to see a doctor to run some tests before getting on PrEP, then they can write you a PrEP prescription.

IMPORTANT

If you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander you can ask your doctor for a Closing the Gap, CTG script. It is free, or much cheaper than a normal script. The doctor can write “CTG” and initial the script if you are not registered at the clinic for CTG.
